The Organic Greenhouse Set was a great way for my three year old to learn about the lifecycle of composting, planting and picking the vegetables. She loved raking the soil and picking the vegetables and we were able to talk through the process. She was a lot more interested in the garden at her ECE and was pointing out the different vegetables to collect. As a Mum I loved seeing her pretend play come out and it definitely used her fine motor skills though some of the elements are particularly small and it was tricky to hold the greenhouse shade up and play at the same time (I ended up adding a 3m velcro strip to it so she could stick it back) - she is 3.3 years, I think closer to 4 and it will be easier as she did get frustrated with the small parts and the cover at times. I also love that is is sustainably made and is encouraging her to think about the planet which is important to us and I can definitely see her keeping up the questions about the composting and how we implement it at home also which is cool!

We were lucky to receive the Hape Green Planet Explorers Green Vehicle Set and it’s been an absolute hit with our soon to be 4 year old. The tree wind turbine sparked a lot of “what’s this” and “why” questions, which I was more than happy to answer, explaining what a wind turbine is, how it works and how it benefits us. It was great to see him so engaged putting the information into play. By spinning the wind turbine, it generated energy that he could use to charge the E-Car to drive Aria around with. When the car would run low on energy, he would take it back to the tree to recharge. His favourite part to play has been the “planting of the tree”. Driving Aria around with her shovel in hand with the tree in the back of the E-Car. He was able to use his fine motor skills to delicately “dig” out the dirt patch, lower the tree into its spot and water it. We were able to re-enact this play outside by digging patches for our strawberry plants, which sparked even more questions and conversation about plants and their benefits to us and our environment. Hape have yet again smashed it out the park with the recyclable packaging and sustainability of the toys themselves without compromising on quality.

The Honey Bee Picnic set was a great way to teach Miss 3 how honey is made and introduce ideas about how the natural world nourishes us and provides food. She loved role playing with the bees, collecting the nectar from the flowers and making the honey all the way to spreading it on the toast for the bear to enjoy. The smaller pieces and more intricate elements of the toy (hanging the Honey bees on the tree, collecting the honey) helps promote fine motor skills and a more delicate play. I'm incredibly impressed by this toy, from the well thought out packaging to the real life lessons that can be learnt from it and the free play/imaginative elements that it promotes

HAPE GREEN PLANET EXPLORERS ECO CAMPING SET - My kids really enjoyed role-playing some of their favourite real-life adventures like camping, exploring with their compass and binoculars, and cooking food over the campfire with the cute eco explorers Milo the Tiger and Sam the Panda. It encouraged them to take turns and play together, and gave opportunities for Miss 5 to help Miss 3 with some of the fine motor skills needed such as getting the figurines into their sleeping bags, putting on their hats and holding various tools. Miss 3 spent a long time picking up pieces of recycling with the pliers and carefully placed them in the bag which required lots of focus and fine motor skills. Great to see all the eco-friendly packaging and materials, and the toys look like great quality products that will last well. There are small pieces, but everything can be stored/carried in the tent when not being played with. We talked about what was rubbish/recycling, and what were tools, and how we can all do our bit to help look after the environment, no matter how old we are. This set really sparked their curiosity by combining familiar elements with new concepts. Although we don’t litter, I can now see us taking gloves and rubbish bags with us to the park to pick up rubbish together. The eco-camping play set definitely ticks lots of boxes for my kids.
