Be inspired by the woman behind The Lactation Station
Renee Ball is the woman behind The Lactation Station. We ask her some questions about her business and the family life juggle.
Tell us a bit about your business:
The Lactation Station started in my little home kitchen, baking 40 cookies at a time, and is now New Zealand’s leading brand in edible lactation products – baking close to 100,000 cookies on bake day. We make lactation cookies, herbal teas and smoothie blends.
What’s your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is the freedom to live my life on my own time. When I had my daughter, Honor, my husband and I agreed that I would take six months off work. But I just knew that wasn’t long enough and putting my baby into daycare to go and work for someone else was not an option for me. So, I looked for a way to bring in some money but still be able to be a stay-at-home mum for longer. Now with two kids and two businesses, I can plan my days to suit my family’s needs and am not governed by anyone else’s timelines.
How do you find a balance between family life and your business?
It is a continuous juggle and no matter if I have the balance right or not, I still get the ‘mum guilts’. But I have a village;
an incredible supportive group of family and friends who help us out a lot. And my husband is the saviour. Both being business owners, we can juggle the kids and their schedules, as well as balancing work hours between us both. Date nights are non-existent though!
What’s on the horizon for your business?
I have so many dreams and goals for The Lactation Station. I have been taking my time to ensure I got it right but I feel like I have reached the point to start expanding the product range and begin exporting. Bring on 2021, it is going to be an epic year for us!
