Meet our new Editor
Meet the new OHbaby! magazine Editor Kristina Rapley.
Tell us about your family?
I live in west Auckland with my beautiful little fam – my husband Ashton, our little girl Tallulah who just turned one, our cat Bell belles and doggie Blue. They’re the best!
What’s your background?
I have a degree in journalism and was a news journalist for six years until I started editing lifestyle magazines, most recently Taste magazine and Your Home & Garden before I went on maternity leave.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Do you know what, I don’t think I had any career aspirations as a child – I grew up on a farm and just enjoyed being a free range kid I think! I spent my childhood picking fruit and vege from the garden and looking after pet lambs and feeding calves. A very sheltered and wholesome childhood I’m very grateful for.
What do you do to get "me-time"?
I’m food-obsessed, so watching cooking shows is my absolute happy place. Ideally in bed, in my pyjamas, eating something delicious.
What is your philosophy on mothering?
I am finding it’s ever-changing as Tallulah grows. In the beginning it was very primal and all encompassing. I was her home and she was mine, totally intertwined and connected in every possible way. I’ve found it quite tricky (but also freeing) to let go a bit as she’s gotten older because I do think she needs space and independence to become her own person. A mother’s instincts are a magical thing – I think we need to follow them at all costs.
What are three things you’d like OHbaby! to represent:
Inclusivity, togetherness & empowerment
What most excites you about your new job?
Becoming a mother is one of the most powerful and totally life-altering moments in a woman’s life and the fact that I get to play a small role in that season for OHbaby! readers is just incredible. We’re all in this together!
