Celebrating Dads
When a baby is born, a father is born. To celebrate the special role men play, here's fatherhood, in their own words.
Simon Baker and Beau (six weeks old)
Simon: “It’s hard to explain the rush of emotions that occurred when Beau arrived but I was love-struck straight away and clearly remember feeling a strong protective instinct and desire to look after my little girl.
“Since her arrival life has certainly changed. I surf less and try to work less and I can’t wait to get home from work and see how she has grown. I love her smiles in the morning when I get her up for the morning shift and I love our chats (admittedly, she just coos in reply).
“Every day is a new surprise and adventure and I look forward to life with my new family.”
Matthew Grant and Tyler (22 months)
Matt: “I love taking Tyler to the park and being active with him, kicking around a ball or playing trucks outside. He seems to have picked up our family’s love of motor sport and loves anything that makes engine noises and has wheels.
“Every parent is smitten with their kids, but I feel so lucky to have this amazing little guy as our son.”
Josh Gwilliam and Abigail (two), Lottie (four) and Johanna (six)
Josh: “When I think about being a father, I just think about the three indescribable wonders in my life that are my daughters.
“There are a lot of love hearts in our house. In fact, come to think of it, it’s all pretty girlie. I’m a builder by trade but I can also paint nails and manage an average ponytail.
“Fatherhood is about love and affection but also guidance and instruction, because I know that one day they will all reference how they should be treated on my example.”
