Five easy ways to show your kids you love them
Three simple words that say so much. There's nothing a child needs more to grow his or her self-esteem, sense of purpose and security in this world than to know he or she is unreservedly, and whole-heartedly loved. Here are some simple but effective ways of doing just that.
💕 Make saying "I Love You" an integral part of your day. Make sure you always say it before bed, or when you pick your little one up from daycare.
💕 Give cuddles. Scientists tell us that oxytocin, the body's natural love potion, is released by physical contact and can help relax. So when your child is having some quiet time watching tv or reading, sit with them cuddling on your lap. Another study found a baby who is cuddles for five hours a day cries 50 per cent less, than a baby who is cuddled the average amount of two-and-a-half hours a day.
💕 Get down to their level. Bend those knees and get down to eye-level with your child so they really know they have your undivided attention.
💕 Read books that express your love for your child. We recommend "On The Night You Were Born" by Nancy Tillman and the classic "Guess How Much I Love You." Also worth seeking out is the book and CD "Goodnight My Angel" by Billy Joel. This is a heart-warming story about a father's never-ending love for his child. It's a joy to cuddle up with your little one, listen to Billy Joel sing, and look at the wonderful illustrations together.
💕 Leave a little note in your child's lunch box so they can read it when they're at kindergarten or daycare and know that you're thinking of them, even when you're not there in person.
