Pear and cashew bircher muesli recipe for baby
Nutritionist Anna Hansen offers kitchen tips and her favourite recipes for baby food jam-packed with goodness.
Suitable for babies from eight months.
Ingredients
¼ cup of rolled oats or instant oats
2 tablespoons raw cashew nuts or walnuts (optional)
1 tablespoon raisins (optional)
½ ripe pear, cored and cubed
½ cup of water
Method
1. Place oats, nuts, and raisins (if using) into a food processor or good quality blender, and grind until finely chopped.
2. Add the pear and water, blend until the pear is finely chopped.
3. Serve immediately or refrigerate in a covered container for up to 24 hours.
4. The muesli will thicken in the fridge. You may need to add warm water when serving. Serve with fresh fruit such as sliced banana or berries.
This recipe only makes two to three servings for an older baby, as it needs to be consumed within 24 hours. I recommend making this in the evening and serving half to your baby for breakfast the next morning, saving the other half for a snack later in the day. Alternatively, freeze leftovers into age-appropriate serving portions.
Bircher muesli is also a fantastic breakfast for a busy mum. You can make a version of this for yourself and pop it in the fridge alongside baby's meal, ready for a nutritious start to the day. For mum’s version, add extra chopped nuts and seeds before refrigerating and serve with a generous helping of fresh fruit.
